A small charity with a big impact

Penelope Henshaw, 18th November 1931 – 2nd December 2023

Penelope has died aged 92.

She was a supporter and close friend of Bishop Creighton House/The Creighton Centre for many decades, as a member of staff, volunteer and trustee. Many people have fond memories of Penelope. For years she ran the Card Group, whose members collected old birthday and Christmas cards, and in imaginative ways, recycled them as new cards. She was the leader of the Busy Bees, who knitted clothes and toys that were sold to raise funds for the charity. As mentor and friend, she helped countless older and learning disabled group members.

The Creighton Centre is not the same place without Penelope, but she lives on in everyone’s thoughts. Her funeral service, a celebration of her long life, was held at the Church of St Andrews, Fulham Fields, on 20th December 2023.

“I'd never met anyone quite like Penelope - always very courteous and happy to help, in any way she felt she could”. (Ian Godfrey, who has volunteered with us for over 30 years and knew Penelope well.)

Her family have asked that donations in Penelope’s memory may be made to The Creighton Centre via our website.
